Thanks to all of you who responded!!
This is a summery of what you have said:
1) Yes, you can refuse to treat a patient, provided;
a) you are not abandoning a patient in which you are currently
providing care to.
b) There are other facilities locally where the patient can receive care.
2) Inform the patient that you will not provide services to them and provide
a list of qualified providers in your area.
3) Contact referring Dr. and inform him of your action.
This is the actions our office will adopt, and pray no law suits!
Keep detailed notes!!! Just went thru a complaint with medicare. Without
our clinical notes we would have been sunk!
