Hi List members-
Several months ago I posted a Heads up regarding a proposed
regulation banning the use of adhesives and solvents in the four-county area
of San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles. The regulation,
proposed by the Air Quality Management District (AQMD), significantly limits
the use of volatile organic compounds, (VOC's), the ingredients which give
the quick-drying properties to our adhesives.
Ralph Nobbe, on the board of directors for the California Orthotic and
Prosthetic Association (COPA), brought this issue to the board, Ken Rolffe of
Atlas International brought information to the board and Sherry Daley, the
administrative coordinator for COPA was working on a draft of a position
paper to the AQMD. In her communications with the author of the regulation,
Sherry pointed out among other things, how minuscule our industry's use of
VOCs is. As a result, the author ultimately decided to write in an exemption
for our industry!!
This is an example of how a state association works behind the scenes
to benefit us all. THANK YOU COPA for your responsiveness!!
Regardless of if you're a practitioner or a business owner, here's
another example of how your support of your state and national associations
is an investment not only in your profession, but in your own livelihood!
