Ischial Containment Casting Procedures
Text:
Greetings Listmembers(again).
This is a letter I sent earlier but failed to properly note with regard to
subject to the Listserve. So hoping for more responses and with apologies
for being repetitive I am giving it another try assisted by the same unnamed
resident to be mentioned later.
I've worked in prosthetics for some time and have been considering changes
in my approach to ischial containment procedures. This is occasioned less by
my own willingness than by reports from a thoughtful resident currently
working at our facility and my attempt to demonstrate a degree of flexibility.
Since 1986 I've basically followed Chis Hoyt's UCLA cat/cam approach to
casting and measurement with some allowance for a slightly larger
medio-lateral and smaller antero-posterior dimension - i.e., mildly more
quadrilateral . The discussion said analytically -minded resident and I are
having is in regard to the use of casting brims. This is particularly those
brims that offer true containment with patients weightbearing (on a stand)
and allowing conventional wrapping and molding of the distal and lateral
/distal femur. Could those of you willing to respond give me some idea of
how successful this tends to be, what manufacturers you prefer, and what
shortcomings you encounter?
I'll be glad to see that results are posted. All correspondent names will be
deleted.
Thanks for your time and thought.
