Description

Title:

U.S. Issue:"A"codes--Diabetics--Foot Inserts

Text:

To the List,
I have been reading my 2002 HCPCS Book (keep hoping it will have a happy ending—but no dice). As I read it, A5502 Multi-density inserts for Diabetics only, has been deleted for 2002. In its place are three new “A” codes—A5509, A5510, and A5511 that describe various prefab and custom shoe inserts for diabetics. Unfortunately, in my book at least, all three are designated as “noncovered by Medicare”. As far as I can figure out, there are no longer ANY Medicare covered accommodative or protective insoles for diabetics. Am I reading this correctly?
Yours in the Pursuit,
Harry Phillips, CPO
