I am trying to gather some information about the legalities of contracting
with a hospital.
Can a hospital contract with an O&P facility to have that facility provide
all inpatient and outpatient services? If so, what about the patients right
to choose? What happens when a physician or physical therapist asks for a
service to be provided by another facility?
Is a contract like this simply an agreement to provide some type of
discount, or can a hospital actually guarantee referral of all O&P needs to
one facility? Also, how does this play out when a hospital has an in-house
or staff orthotist or prosthetists?
I would be interested in hearing from anyone with experience or knowledge in
this area.
Thanks in advance in the help.
