Dear Listmembers:
I recently posted an inquiry about valve usage. The following are the responses I received:
The USMC Prima-Valve works fine. I use a commercial valve with approximately 2 of polyetheline tube through a hole drilled in the socket adaptor with a little silicone adhesive to seal.
*********************
USMC has the broadest range of valves. We use mostly the Green Dot non
adjustable with stainless housing for laminated AK sockets. We primarily use
the Centri valve for our flexible AK sockets. We have tried the Bock Valves
and like the laminated version. It is a bit pricey however.
As far as expulsion valves go we have used the TEC but I have a concern about
these types of valves in general. If they are malfunctioning (leaking)
wouldn't they be doing the opposite of what you were intending? And would the
average patient actually know if they were not working properly.
***********************
As of the past 2 years I've been using the ESP Lyn Valve RV, exclusively
with the auto-expulsion valve insert mainly. Only one client has asked for
the standard manual valve thus far. The advantage to theis system is the
easy of installation and retro-fitting.
You cannot fit the housing in an existing socket however. The kit comes
with a special dummy over whaich you vacuumform.
I used to use the USMC Green dot superseal or SFS thermoplastic sytem, but
had leakage problems form time to time.
*********************
For Trans-Femoral suction I like Otto Bocks new push button valve. It has a built in key for easy tightening, and seems very durable.
For Trans-Tibial expulsion valves I use the USMC Prima-Valve, the BK-Lynn Valve from ESP, or a valve I have found commercially available and local.
********************
by far the lyn valve is the best for most right now ease of use compleatness of system sevice is a snap flexibility of applaction check with esp for in service you will like what you see
*************************
i've been using the lyn valve by esp.. have not really had any major problems, however if the bioelastic or proflex doesn't seal properly around the dummy during fabrication you may need to adjust the seal.
********************
Hosmer Red Dot Valve #51936 is tried and true. Rugged aluminum
construction, relatively easy to disassemble and clean, and can be adjusted for true leak-rate operation. Will also fit into the Century XXII Large Valve Housing and Collar #VH300L, for thermoplastic applications.
********************
Thank you to all who responded.
Kind regards,
