Patient is 75 y.o. man who was in a bad MVA in late 1940s. Had femoral
fracture with a plate put in. Patient was unable to flex knee for a
year. Patient has since been VERY active and has only slight deficits.
ROM at knee is limited to 110 degrees of flexion and quad strength is
slightly compromised. He reports a buckling tendency under very
stressful situations (going down a steep hill, skiing).
Patient is looking for a knee support similar to the one he got in the
late 40s. He will wear it for downhill skiing. He described it as
elastic/leather (like the Truform or Freeman) with thick leather strips
on either side. He reports that the joints (not sure if they were true
joints -covered by leather) allowed flexion but resisted it. This
resistance increased as the flexion increased. He reports it was not a
flexion stop. This resistance gave him time to recover if his knee
started to buckle.
Any ideas?
