The deadline for the Illinois License of orthotists, prosthetists and pedorthists is fast approaching. The Illinois Orthotic, Prosthetic and Pedorthic Practice Act will be enforced on 1-1-02 and your application must be received by the
IL Department of Professional Regulations (IDPR) by then. Visit their web site < <URL Redacted>> to view the practice act, administrative rules and to print out a copy of the applications.
You need not live in Illinois to receive an Illinois license, but you must have a license to practice in Illinois and may need a license to provide O&P or pedorthic care paid for by the State of Illinois. (IDPA, DSCC, or DORS) After
January 1st, custom made and most custom fitted orthoses, prostheses and pedorthic devices will require the direct care or supervision of a licensed individual.
Applications for Licensed Orthotists or Prosthetists via grandfathering (option I for orthotists and prosthetists certified by the ABC [CO, CP, or CPO] and option II for non-ABC orthotists and prosthetists with full-time experience
between 1-93 and 1-00) expire on 1-1-02.
Applications for Licensed Pedorthist via grandfathering (Option I for pedorthists certified by the BCP [CPed] or orthotists certified by the ABC [CO or CPO] and Option II for non-BCP certified pedorthists with full-time experience
between 1-93 and 1-00) also expire on 1-1-02.
Option I require verification from either the ABC or the BCP. Option II requires documented work experience and attestation from licensed physicians or pediatrists.
Please contact Mr. Kim Scott, O, P, & P board liaison, via the IDPR web site or myself for further information.
