Dear American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists,
My name is Sean Kindley. I am a 16 year old student in the 10th grade.
Myself and team of friends are participating in a science competition
called the Toshiba ExploraVision contest this year.
The object of the ExploraVision contest is for students to choose a
piece of technology and envision improvements for it that would be
beneficial to mankind. Then, they must take steps to research and find
out what is necessary for this vision to become a reality. (IE: Why
don't we have it already?)
My team and I chose limb prostheses as our technology. Our vision for
the technology is an improvement in myoelectrics and sensory feedback,
meaning that we envision leg and arm prosthetics that are controlled by
the mind, the bodies own neurons, and send feedback of senses such as hot
and cold or pain to
the wearer-- a replacement arm.
We would greatly appreciate any assistance you could provide to us. If
you could direct us to someone we could talk with via email about our
vision, or any other assistance you could provide, we would be eternally
grateful.
Thank you for your time and assistance,
Sean Kindley, Danny Moris, Michael Secora, and Tyler Wilson
