I have a difficult one here. I've been asked to fit an AFO on a woman who
I fit unsuccessfully many years ago. She is a right hemiplegic with severe
aphasia and a supination deformity of long standing. She is now being
treated with Botox and physical therapy and some reduction of the deformity
has been accomplished. The supination tone is greatly diminished but it is
not possible to reduce the ankle to less than 15 degrees of varus.

Does anyone have a suggestion for an orthosis design that would ACTIVELY
apply a continuous mild stretch to a varus deformity?. I've used the
Ultraflex system with good results on plantarflexion problems but their
varus/valgus correction is fixed not dynamic. I want something with the
ability to apply a dynamic stretch similar to what I can get for a
plantarflexion contracture. Does such an orthosis exist?

I will post a summary of responses including names unless I am asked to not
do so.
