AOPA, a national trade association dedicated to quality patient care, lowers membership qualification criteria to boost revenue for thier financial survival. ABC endorses and supports amendment.
AOPA Proposed Membership Bylaw Amendment Passes by 3% of the Total Membership
votes!
While it appears the professional membership and most consumers remain silent, I was in attendance at the open meeting of AOPA's Proposed Membership Bylaw Amendment that was voted on and passed Thursday, October 25, in Phoenix.
Political philospohies aside for the moment, I repectfully ask AOPA members, how does the fate of major company policy changes, of any association, that consists of over 1300 members, get determined by less than 42 votes on
such a major issue? Less than 75 votes were cast at the meeting.
Why was not substantive information regarding issue of this amendment not properly exposed to its members beforehand ?
To ABC certifees and Academy members, what criteria did ABC rationalize in supporting this amendment that basically opens AOPA membership to non ABC certifees as a revenue boosting strategy to their association membership ?
What position did the Academy take on the intiative?
Why are there no consumer members of either AOPA or the Academy?
As John Billock, LPO so accurately pointed out in his e-mails of October 20 ad October 21, it is the consumer that is the real loser in reducing the qualification requirements of providers.
State and federal regulation is now more necessary than ever to maintain accountability, qualifications for O&P providers and better ensure proper coverages for those consumers requiring O&P services.
