OPAF Events at Upcoming AOPA Meeting
Dear O&P List Members,
The O&P Athletic Fund (OPAF) will be sponsoring a number of events during
AOPA's upcoming National Assembly in Phoenix. If you plan to attend the
meeting, please join us in support of Fund and its mission to help promote
health and fitness for everyone.
*OPAF Fitness for Everyone Clinic*
Saturday, October 27, 2001
9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Hyatt Regency Phoenix Ballroom
The Fitness for Everyone Clinic is an interactive course on advanced
rehabilitation for people with an amputation, their family members, physical
therapists and professionals. The clinic will feature hands-on instruction
of advanced stretching and strengthening exercises for above-and below-knee
amputees, as well as coaching to enhance walking and running techniques.
This clinic is also beneficial to orthotic and prosthetic practitioners, to
physical therapists, and to other allied health professionals. The program
is designed to help allied health professionals better assist their patients
in reaching their physical goals.
If you or someone you know would like to participate in the clinic, please
contact Jeff Reznick, Director of the O&P Athletic Fund, by email
( <Email Address Redacted> ) or by phone at (703) 836-7116 (ext. 218).
*OPAF First Swing Clinic*
Wednesday, October 24
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The program runs from 8:00 AM to 10:00 a.m.
Wigwam Resort Driving Range, Phoenix
Bob Wilson, Executive Director of NAGA (National Amputee Golf Association)
developed First Swing to instruct therapists to teach and encourage the
physically challenged to learn, or re-learn, the game of golf. First Swing
Clinics enable the individual to enjoy the unique, friendly atmosphere found
on the golf course and gain a greater sense of personal achievement.
Working together, the O & P Athletic Fund and NAGA have designed a way of
providing an abbreviated version of the second day instruction. This
mini-clinic will provide teaching instruction to physically challenged
participants, so that they can learn to swing a golf club, with the ultimate
goal of getting the golf ball airborne.
In the full two-day First Swing program, the first day is designed to teach
the basics of the game to therapists and others interested in teaching the
physically challenged. Participants are invited to swing a club standing on
one leg, sitting in a wheel chair, using only one hand, etc., to better
appreciate the new demands that will be made on their educational training
in teaching others. While, the second day is devoted to therapists
instructing the physically challenged participants under the expertise of
NAGA members. This program is opened to every physically challenged
individual regardless of age or handicap. Children may begin by using a
putter - excellent training for use in a game of miniature golf with
friends. Adults may also take their first swing with a putter and then
progress to a Pitch and Putt area or a Par-3 course.
Again, this rewarding program is for both the physically challenged
individuals and therapists alike. Space is limited, so if you would like to
participate, please contact Jeff and reserve your spot today.
*OPAF Silent Auction*
Main Assembly Registration Area
Auction opens: Wednesday, October 24 at 5:00 p.m.
Auction closes: Friday, October 26 at 5:00 p.m.
Going...going...gone! The Silent Auction to benefit the Fund has become an
annual tradition. This year, the auction will feature rare and special items
donated by over a dozen organizations. In past years, this event has been
one of the Fund's most fun and successful fundraising events. Thanks to your
generosity, we raised over $18,000 at our last auction. It is our goal, with
your support, to build on that success and hold another fantastic auction in
Phoenix. In Phoenix, please look for the auction near the main registration
area.
If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the OPAF Silent
Auction, please contact Jeff. If the item is difficult to ship, please send
a photo or a description, including the approximate value. Contact Jeff to
receive a written form for submitting your donation.
*OPAF Golf Tournament*
Wednesday, October 24
Bus departs Hyatt at 8:30 a.m.
Travel time is approximately 25 minutes
Shotgun start at 10:00 a.m.
When you are in Phoenix, participate in the Fund's charity Golf Tournament
to support the OPAF mission, make good business contacts, network with
colleagues, and promote your business.
The tournament will be held at the Wigwam Resort, recipient of Golf
Magazine's Silver Medal Award for recognition of excellence in facility and
high standard of service in golf. The Wigwam is hailed as the Top Resort
Course in Arizona, on Golf Digest's list.
Robert Trent Jones, world-renowned golf architect, designed this
one-of-a-kind course. The course offers 7,200 yards of quality golf that is
beautifully set in the natural terrain of the area. Nestled between purple
mountains and rolling hills, this course provides luscious greenery, while
being set amidst miles of a desert oasis. This perfect setting is why this
course is the favorite of so many. We invite you to join us for a day of
beautiful scenery and golfing enjoyment.
Registration fee for the tournament is $175, which includes transportation,
greens fee and cart, lunch, beverages, photos and prizes. This year $95 per
person of your fee will be donated to the O & P Athletic Fund. As always,
golfers will receive receipts for their tax-deductible donations. Remember,
appropriate golf attire and soft spike shoes are required at this course.
Contact Jeff at the Fund to register for the tournament and to learn about
sponsorship opportunities that can help to raise the profile of your
business.

Thank you for your time, your consideration, and your support of the Fund.
We look forward to seeing you in Phoenix.
Sincerely and with all best wishes to all,
Jeff
