I would like the thank all list serve members for responding to me with
examples where skilled nursing facilities are denying prescribed orthotic
services to Medicare beneficiaries. I would again like to solicit your
input on another important issue--the VA health care system.
The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) has been receiving an
increasing number of complaints from its members about their experiences
with Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) health care facilities. AOPA is
collecting specific examples of any problems your practice may be having
with VA facilities. These reports can be about aggressive marketing
campaigns, anti-competitive business tactics used by VA facilities,
inconveniences imposed on patients getting appointments, requiring patients
to travel extended distances to receive necessary care or specific examples
of the VA simply not following its own rules.
There will be a representative from the VA at this year's National Assembly
in Phoenix, Arizona on Oct. 24-27. We would like to be able to present the
VA representative with concrete examples illustrating current problems that
affect both your practice as well as patient care. These examples will help
us identify difficulties with the current program and allow us to work
toward solutions with the VA or through legislation to improve the system
for all stakeholders. But we need specific examples in order to convince
the VA and Congress that problems exist.
If have information to share, please respond directly to me at
