I am a physio working in a rehab hospital in Brisbane, and I currently have a patient who is a 19 yr old boy with sustained traumatic bilateral hip disarticulation amputations.
We have just begun to get him sitting upright in a normal wheelchair sitting on a Cloud cushion for 2 -3 hours at a time, and are starting to think about long-term solutions for him. We are considering options of either modifying the wheelchair with custom seating, or creating some sort of a seating bucket for him. Does anyone have any experience with either of these options? He does not have a catheter or stoma, so we need to consider conveneince for toileting as well.
As well, he is asking about walking again, and while I know it is theoretically possible, I am wondering if anyone has any experience with anyone of this level who has actually been successful.
Thank you for any suggestions or ideas.
