I didn't receive as many responses as I had hoped for, so if you have
tried this product please drop me a line and let me know what you thought
of it. The few responses I did receive are included below. I'll post
more if I get them.
I have had about 15 patients/clients on the Arthroglide, some from before
USMC acquired the design from JMMR in New Jersey. While the concept and
function are very good, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Early
on, three broke while in use (one patient had 2 break, the original and
it's
replacement. Fortunately, no one was hurt). The ankles were matched to
the
patient's weight and function according to the manufacturer. When USMC
took
over, I thought things would improve; they combine the ankle with their
'E2'
foot for you and they can only be ordered that way. However, while they
say
they have 'beefed up' the components that were fracturing, there are
still
problems with the linkage pins, especially the posterior pins. Some of
them
loosen up after a few days of walking on them and begin to click and make
noise. At least one of the newer USMC ankles have broken. Depending on
my
patient's/client's functional level, I am now in the process of changing
the
components and using either the Springlite Advantage or the FlexFoot's
Variflex to try and match the action of the Arthoglide. Needless to say,
USMC is issuing return authorizations for all of the ankles I change out.
At this point, not using this ankle would probably be a prudent decision.
I tried it and little benefit for additional wt. and height. Good luck.
Chet, We have it on two BKA (one is a bi lat bka). They BOTH love the
action as they are both very active(the bi lat is a tobacco farmer and
the
other is a waterman). The only problem we have had is the foot bolt
breaking but USMC now has now corrected that problem. We would probably
use
more if we had a demo product. Good luck, Mike
we have used 3 of these. the patients loved them .they liked the action
more
than they minded the weight.
