David, the successful prosthetic rehabilitation of Kenya East African, Gabriel Nzuni has been completed.
In spite of your misconception and statement below , the Barr Foundation's commitment to assist the USA amputee is doing its job and remains strong. We receive over 100 applications for funding in the US every month.
We have fitted successfully, thru professional sponsorships, over 500 American amputees whom otherwise had no other financial resources. We advocate for regulation and qualification standards of the profession which will eventually generate meaningfull O&P coverage for all Americans.
Does ACA or other consumer organizations advocate for minimum qualifications and regulation ?
Many of our recipients located in third world developing nations depend on prosthetic rehabilitation for survival since there are no safety nets of welfare or food stamps. They need this help not to run and participate in marathons but to meet their everyday needs like getting to the bathroom, feeding themselves and becoming self efficient with dignity.
Perhaps the mega wealthy corporate sponsors, you mention below, should be helping our cause instead of feathering their corporate hat with sponsorships of amputee superstars provided hi tech prosthetics by the manufactures free of charge.
No, not is all fine and good re: affordability of prosthetic and orthotic rehabilitation for most Americans, even though many normies who see the amputee super stars perform believe every amputee has affordability access to this technology.THEY DO NOT!
Exposure to these athletic events creates a false perception that even though hi technology in prosthetics is available, affordability of retaining it to most amputees is not.
The Barr Foundation, our sponsoring prosthetists,Hope Donor Members and our sister organization, United Amputee Services Association do what we can in helping make people whole again around the world.
Thank you Wayne Konuik CP, owner of San Francisco O&P and Kirk Leavy President of Cascade Orthotic Supply and Michael Onsongo Program Officer Of Kenya Community Based Rehabilitation and UNICEF KCO/MOH KENYA, in assisting us with the successful prosthetic rehabilitation of Gabriel Nzuni of Kenya,East Africa.
