I am seeing a middle aged man who needs to keep his neck in flexion( face pointing to the floor) for 3 weeks fulltime. I have been asked to fabricate/obtain a device to make sure that will make sure be does not bring his head upright. He will sleep in a chair, sitting, or on an angled bed.
He is having surgery for an eye problem and if the eye becomes horizontal it may/will affect the healing. He has been loosing sight and this has been successful in correcting the problem.
We are considering a SOMI(possible sleeping complications due to sternal pressure) and a Taylor with an extension over the head. We may add a forehead strap to help reduce the stress on the back of the neck.
Has anyone ever made such a device? Any suggestions? I need responses by October 2, 2001
