Thanks for all the replies. You guys have been a big help. I have a couple more questions.
1. If he ends up with a myoelectric arm, what is involved in training him to use it? Who does the training? What kind of time frame?
2. I looked on Otto Bock's website, but didn't see anything about a Greiffer hook. Is it still being manufactured? Might it be called somethig else?
3. Who do we send this guy to to get a good assessment that will consider his work needs? I should mention here that I work for voc rehab, so our interest is predominantly his ability to perform on the job. However, I understand that work and life aren't easily separated. We are in the North GA area. Is there anyone who you would recommend down here?
4. Is there any literature that you recommend that would help us/him make a more informed decision?
Thanks again for all your help. Not only have I leaned something about US prosthetics, you have helped me remember my OT lingo, too. I have worked as a techie for so long that I have forgotten phrases like contralateral and voluntary opening. This is a good refresher!
Thanks,
Sue
