Dear peers:
I have a very unique case coming up and would love to converse with
anyone with experience. I have a male, 32 year old short BE who desires
a hook to use for weightlifting. He is currently using a 5XA daily for
all activities with few limitations (weightlifting being one) and is
limitless with his sports. Current Px was fabricated elsewhere. After
further discussions and research on my end, he now wants a new sports
only prosthesis. The main reason is that he has used a VO hook for 12
years and the sports hooks are VC. Cables will be different, body
movements different, etc. He will not get full use/function from his
existing VO cable and doesn't like the idea of trading out cables
everyday. And the idea of a suction suspension liner excites him. I
have spoken with Bob Radocy at TRS and plan to use the Grip 3 with the
weightlifting modifications. Bob is absolutely wonderful and gave me
some other ideas during our conversation. He speaks really fast,
though! :-)
Has anyone else had experience with weightlifting TD's? Because this
gentleman is only about 4 long, I am concerned with strengthening the
prosthesis's midsection (forearm) to withstand all the weight and not
break right in half! Although his existing heavy duty Px is doing fine
so far. I have considered steel rods of some sort laminated between the
wrist unit and socket. I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
