Consignment Closets
Consignment Closets are arrangements between DMEPOS suppliers and
physicians, whereby the supplier leaves DMEPOS items in a physician's office
for the physician to supply to beneficiaries as needed. The DMEPOS supplier
then bills Medicare for the items instead of the physician. The Department
of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of Inspector General has issued a
fraud alert concerning any rental agreements that may be involved and the
possibility that such agreements may violate the Medicare anti-kickback law.
