Here is a message that was posted on the NAOT Message Board for Orthotechs.
I think we need to know more about this industry group, NAOM. They seem
to be working against us.
NAOT Members,
Concerning the Orthotists bill, NAOT members can be assured that NAOT is and
has been taking the appropriate steps to protect the OrthoTech profession.
We do at this time have representation in Washington that is continuing to
lobby and protect the interests of the members of the OrthoTech profession.
There will be an OrthoTech at the rulemaking hearing of HCFA.
There seems to be a concern with the leadership of this organization from
one member, but had this individual personally taken the time to contact the
NAOT leadership they would have been informed of the numerous hours that
have been spent maintaining this organization and elevating our profession
to a higher level. I advise NAOT members to be cautious of outside
distractions and to trust in the NAOT administration and rest assured that
they are doing all that they can do to assure that the Orthotechs remain a
strong and viable force in the field of Orthopaedics. While some members
seem to think that this issue just came up, NAOT has been working since
January 2001 on protecting your profession and interests. In March of 2001,
we joined forces with the National Associaton of Orthotic Manufacturers
which consists of most of the major bracing manufacturers in the US.
I can appreciate the concerns of our members in Florida and NAOT will do
whatever it takes to assist the Florida OrthoTechs to solidify their
position in the Orthopaedic profession.
NAOT has retained a new management firm effective 09/01/01 that has
experience and a proven track record in working with an organization such as
ours. They will have representatives at the meeting in Phoenix. I know that
we are taking steps in the right direction to continue to lead our
organization to fulfill the high standards that we have set for ourselves.
I am asking that any members that have any questions, suggestions or ideas
concerning this issue to please attend the General Assembly meeting on
08/10/01. If you are unable to attend please e-mail your comments,
suggestions and concerns to me and I will personally address them at the
General Assembly.
Mike Gill, OTC President NAOT
