Thank you for the extremely helpful responses that you sent regarding the
Hip Protector System. Through your efforts and assistance, I have been able
to compile a short list of companies that provide these products.
I have located and spoken with representatives of three manufacturers,
who, either sell the product directly (at retail prices) or have a
distribution network.
1-SAFEHIP Hip Protector is a product manufactured in Canada, and comes
in three styles
a. unisex
b. male
c. female (with lace)
SAFEHIP will sell directly, however, it is more expensive to buy from
them than any of their disributors. They can be reached at 1-877-728-3447.
The product consists of a pair of pull-on cotton/lycra shorts that are sized
according to waist (and hip) measurements. S,M,L,XL are available from
SAFEHIP. The protective anatomically shaped cup is made of 1/8
polyethylene, and incorporates a soft inner cup which, when combined with the
polyethylene shell, is designed to shunt the forces of impact away from the
apex of the greater trochanter, and reapplies it to a large surface area and
surrounding musculature and soft tissue.
SAFEHIP Hip Protector Distributors (this list is not comprehensive, I'm
sure...my apologies to the distributors who I have failed to locate)
1-Mobility Transfer Systems, Medford PA, 1-800-314-2221 (spoke with
Thomas...facility owner)
2-Cascade Orthopedic Supply, 1-800-888-0865, ext 102, (spoke with Charlie
Osborn, V.P. of sales and marketing), <Email Address Redacted>
3-Alimed, 1-800-225-2610, (only stock s-m,lg)
PLUM Enterprises has a product that looks similar at first glance,
however I am somewhat unsure whether it incorporates plastic in its shell, or
just foam. They appear slightly more bulky, but I have not seen their
product in person. You can give it a look at www.plument.com. Their prices
are significantly higher than other similar products (as posted on their
website), however, in fairness I was not able to speak with any of their
representatives, and their prices may be somewhat negotiable.?. They may be
reached at 1-800-321-PLUM.
Homeopathic Design Group distributes a product called the Hipguard. This
product is worn around the hips, and consists of a belt, two 1/8
polypropylene shells with a 1/2' foam inside. The pads are rectangular in
shape, and are about 6 x 4. The Hipguard fastens with a nylon buckle in
front, the belt appears to be nylon. It is worn either over the underwear or
over clothing.
They may be reached at 1-800-763-8572. Their website is www.hipguard.com
and if you have Quicktime or Realplayer, you can see their product and a
patient testimonial.
Thanks again to you for all your help.
