Greetings,
I'm currently working with the Biomedical Career Academies of Miami-Dade
to develop a two-week project where their 10th graders would design
and construct a basic prosthetic hand (although if the hand turns out
to be too complicated, we might opt for creating a prosthetic leg).
However, we are lacking some of the technical expertise required to get
it off the ground (for instance, how much functionality should we strive
for, what kind of materials would we need, how they should be constructed
and fitted, etc.). Obviously, I could use any assistance you can offer. I'm
especially interested in finding out about similar projects geared towards
secondary students and what prerequisites the students need to fully
understand the biomechanics involved. Any tips for making the project
feasible and fun would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Jeff Downing
