Dear List Members: A bilateral TT patient of mine is having difficulty
releasing the locking pin from the locking mechanism in one prosthesis.
She is wearing Silipos liners and using Cascade IRS-500-AK clutch
locks. The side affected has a knee flexion contracture, which I think
may be contributing to problem. Distal pressure on the RL while in the
socket facilitates release of the pin. The problem with this is that
the patient is a frail, elderly woman (very compliant user) who has
difficulty maintaining balance if she has to stand or partially weight
bear at the edge of her wheelchair seat while releasing the lock.

Any ideas as to what I can do to make release of the pin easier? Is
this problem inherent with the flexed position of the RL? I tried to
align the locking mechanism somewhere between directly in line with the
long axis of the RL and vertical -this seemed to make donning the
prosthesis easier.

Thanks in advance for any responses.
