O and P Colleagues,

Posted below is a request I received from a San Jose journalist. If
anyone can assist him please e-mail him directly. Thank you.

I am a sports reporter for the San Jose Mercury News.

I am working on a yearlong project following the recovery of Neil
Parry, who had a lower-limb amputation after a rare football injury
during a game for San Jose State. The accident occurred Oct. 14.

I am having difficulty finding much information on whether anyone
has returned to college football's highest level, Division 1, after
having a leg amputated. I've discovered cases of players born without
an arm playing. And with the advances in prosthetic technology I've
seen cases of people doing all kinds of incredible physical
activities. But I'm looking specifically for a parallel case: someone
playing D-1 or 1-AA or D-2 college football with an artificial leg.

Can you offer any help?

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
Elliott Almond
