Hello, all.
I have a patient, 39 years old, who is interested in a spiral carbon fiber
AFO. He has M.S. with left dropfoot. I think that Otto Bock makes one. My
questions are: 1. How rigid is this brace? 2. How thin is the material and
what is the weight of the brace? 3. What are the advantages of using this
design as compared to using say, a polypro PLS or an polypro with the Becker
plastic dorsi-assist joints? I am leaning toward a brace that will give him
some ankle motion with a dorsi-assist, since he does have some muscle
strength. He tires after walking for a while, he has a foot slap, and he
says his ankle twists when he is walking on an uneven surface. ROM is good.
His neuro doctor recommended this spiral AFO. If anyone has had any
experience with this type of brace or can tell me who can make one for me I
would appreciate it. I will post the answers and also what we decide to do.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Paula Martinek
