Orthopedic Lab. San Felipe General Hospital:
The Lab. consolidation continues, financed by the Belgium Gov. and Handicap International own funds.
The Lab. work has been transfer totally the Committee pro Ayuda. With the active support of Handicap International, more international institutions are getting involved to support the Lab. (The Barr Foundation, CAMO, Tripartita). At the same time Handicap International is getting progressively.
Production:
No production data were provided by HGSF. The production was not the priority for this trimester because of the work done on the elaboration of a Procedures Manual for the Lab. and the limitation of high level human resources.
The manufacturing of devices has been limited to a small number of types for which the technician and assistants have been trained.
Human Resources:
Since early in the year Isabelle Couture, a technician, does not support the Lab anymore. The did not prevent a Cuban Tech. to come until a Tech. from El Salvador could come. So Crisley Lines is the only high level person in the Lab.
A new assistant, Santos David Flores has joint the Lab. to cover Carlos Escobar Colon who is leaving soon. A solution was found in late 2000 to finance through the Health Secretary the contract for the 3 assistants until these 3 positions are created formally. The substantial increase in the salaries might prevent one of them from leaving.
Techs. Training:
The 2001 training plan has been put together by Tripartita, OPS, CICR, CAMO
Committee Pro Ayuda:
Has confirmed their aptitudes to manage well the money paid by patients. Has presented to Handicap International a clear inform of the finances which have been audited by handicap International not finding any wrong doing.
An inventory was performed by the committee. Together we have finished in March the modification and designation of all devices. The committee and the Lab. have defined the procedures to better manage the storage room which will be incorporate to the manual.
Other Labs.
Teleton San Pedro Sula:
We are waiting for the donors to begin in the second semester the creation a twin Lab. as the one on HGSF.
Teleton Santa Rosa:
CAMO has asked for Handicap International's support for the Santa Rosa de Copan Project. We have accepted. We will not have technical or financial involvement, but Thierry Gontier will act as Lab. Organizational Advisor and will represent the project to the National coordination sector.
The people responsible for the project have accepted payment from patients based on their financial status with the same guidelines as the ones on HGSF, the idea of separate the operational and financial matters have been well taken. The agreement between Foundation Teleton and Foundation CAMO Honduras which will act as the committee, has been written.
CAMO expects to use this model in its other programs with Foundation Teleton and the Hospital Occidente en Santa Rosa de Copan.
