Waterproofing existing endo prosthesis

Text:
A former patient of mine just stopped in my office to ask about waterproofing
his existing endoskeletal prosthesis. He uses a pin suspension. He has a
sprayed skin on the outside of the prosthesis and has found that water gets
into it when he showers. He also wants to use the prosthesis to swim.
Two questions:
1. Is his skin waterproof ? That is, is the water seeping through the
apparently impermeable surface, or is it gettting into holes and breaks in
the material?
2. Would a regular latex suspension sleeve stop water from getting inside the
socket and down into the pin suspension hole?
Any other information would be appreciated. This patient does not have
resourses to get a wholly new swim prosthesis.
Thanks.
