Title:
Shower cover for prosthesis
Text:
Original post:
I have a client who is a bilateral BK looking for removable covers that can
be applied to his prostheses that would make them waterproof enough for him
to stand in a shower. I know someone use to sell such items. If anyone could
give me info on the subject and feedback plus or minus on how well they work
it would be appreciated.
Responses:
SPS carries them. I'm not sure of the name, but they have a pump on them to
evacuate the air making the cover watertight. My patients love them so far.

With regard to your interest in a disposable shower cover for your patient,
we sell a product called the ShowerGator, which might be of assistance.
<URL Redacted>
The product is unisex and can be pulled over the knee in most cases. The
strap then attaches from that point up the thigh.
This might be of use for your patient, and we would be interested to know how
this product works with prostheses. We have found it to be the most
effective, easy to use, waterproof and inexpensive product available of its
kind. The retail price of the lower extremity model is $15.95
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I am BK and few years ago tested the DryPro..it worked well for me.
***************
Why not just use a plastic bag with a rubber band to hold it closed and
in place?
And a bath mat on the floor of the shower.
*************
There used to be a rubber cover (sleeve)made for people to put over a cast
(fracture cast) for taking a shower. It was readily available at the
medical supply houses, dme stores, etc. I worked well because I had to use
one. I think it was made by Chattanooga Corporation.
*************
I give everyone with a new prosthesis a xerosox sleeve. It's easy to use
and relatively durable
*************
PEL SUPPLY HAS THE SHOWERSAFE. ITS MADE FOR A CAST PROTECTOR IN THE
SHOWER BUT IT COMES IN A 43 LONG VERSION AND THE PART NUMBER IS 4410L
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS CALL ME AT PEL.
************
Try the Xero-sock from PCP Champion ( subsidiary of Tuform) they make a
heavy latex sleeve that covers foot and calf to just below the knee ( I
beleive it is 21 long) also a thigh length (31?). There is a pump attached
to the sleeve which pumps out the air from the inside to make a water tight
seal. I am personally in the process of using one for my own cast(Fx ankle).
If you give me a call I tell you how it worked. Cost is less than $50.00 ea.
************
Try DryPro--this is a latex leg cover, designed for use
over the prosthesis for showering. 800-759-3038 they
work reasonably well.
End of responses.
Thanks to everyone who responded,
Eddie
