Subject: funding for schools
The statistics showing the number of practioners will not meet the demand
for patient need by 2005 is skewed. The statistics are compiled by the
schools and NCOPE based on enrollment in their programs. I'm of the opinion
that the reason enrollment is down so much is because of the weakening of
the ABC credential. The ball has been dropped! BOC is now accepted as a
credentialing body, why spend $20,000.00 going to school when you can take a
CAMP course 40 hours and then make a video and your certified. (I'm not
real sure of the process) My point being there are non-certified and BOC
certified providers out there and enrollment in schools will continue to
decline. The ABC needs to get together with the BOC and agree to raise the
bar educationally or this field will revert back to a trade not a profession
and your education programs will be shut down based on pure economics
$20,000.00 to go to school plus six+ months out of work vs. a few hundred
dollars and forty hours away from work. To make these statistics accurate
they will have to read by 2005 the number of ABC practioners will not meet
the demand. I sure would like to see some statistics on the growth of BOC
I'm sure they have grown quite quickly in thew last few years.
