Hello Mark.
I agree with your statement about'...capturing an appropriate and accurate
image...'. I have not worked with CAD systems at all as the small facility
I work in can't justify the initial expense. Besides, I always ask myself
whether 'that' is the appropriate image I want to capture (with whatever
system) , and ultimately my answer is no, despite what the software allows
me to do to 'correct' the data that has been captured. The issue for me is
how the soft tissues are presented prior to capturing the data. The keyword
is 'appropriate' in your text. 'Accurate' in my mind should really be a
software/hardware issue, ensuring that what I scan is what I get.
Of course, the associated technology is hard to resist, with respect to
data storage and data manipulation. Despite the level of software
sophistication, until a system can present the soft tissues prior to data
capture in an appropriate manner, CAD may have to wait for me. I don't
believe data capture of the 'passive residual limb' is an appropriate
starting point. Scan and trace systems appear very sophisticated but are
still a reasonable and best guess at how the soft tissues should really be
presented.
Thanks for your discussion.
