Title:
Attn Multi Axis Knee Manufacturers
Text:
I would just like to relay to the engineers and manufacturers of multi axis
knees that, of the many people who requested Professor Radcliffe's
information, at least 100 requesters commented that they too would like to
see the detailed data on the individual knees.
That is, the centrode path, the vertical & horizontal displacement of the
virtual center of rotation, and the toe clearance provided.
I think this will lead to gathering more information about the effectiveness
of different geometry for different situations and contribute to more
informed choices and perhaps improved designs.
Perhaps in a year or two the American Academy meeting can emphasize this
issue and invite engineers, biomechanists, and prosthetists to academically
discuss the merits of the knees on the market. Perhaps in two years we will
have more developments in lighter stance control hydraulic units, weight
activated stance control 4 bar knees, and we will have gathered more
information and development in the IC controlled knees.
I believe that some of these issues may be discussed in the upcoming ISPO
meeting in Glasgow.
I also want to thank the many engineers I have spoken to, as well as the ones
I haven't, for their creativity, innovation, and continued contribution to
the field which makes my job easier and more interesting.
Sincerely,
