Dear Asif,

In twenty years I have made one Delbert Gaiter. It was for an old gunshot,
semi-non-union adult male tibia. The gaiter was a lined, total contact
plastic fx orthosis, circumferential, anterior opening ox. The proximal
trimline was to the joint line and the distal encapsulated the malleoli.
Velcro closures were used. Hope this helps.

God Bless,

HI Asif

I am amit, Prosthetist & Orthotist in India.
Gaiters are generally used for Cerebral Palsy children to reduce the
spasticity and keep their limbs in normal position.
There are two types of gaiters:
1. Made up of cloth.
2. Made up of metal and plastic bands.

The first type of gaiter is made up of cloth and reinforced with metallic
bars. These gaiters are used in the case of mild or moderate spasticity. These
are used for both lower and upper limbs. For upper limbs we use only two
metallic bars, one is medially and second is laterally. For lower limbs we
use three bars, one is medially, second is laterally and third is
posteriorly.

The second type of gaiter is made up of plastic bands(thigh and calf bands
fitted posteriorly exerted anteriorly directed force) and two metallic
bars(medially and laterally). These gaiters are used for severe spasticity
and only for lower limbs. One knee cap comes over the knee which applies
posteriorly directed force. In this way this gaiter works on three point
pressure system.
