I have been asked by a concerned foster mother for assistance. As I
have so-far had no success I am asking you for assistance.

8 year old severely involved child. Diagnoses are multiple (parents
both addicted to crack) including MR, non verbal, developmental delays,
lower extremity contractures, fed intravenously. etc. This child also
is self abusive in that he constantly picks at his face to the extent
that I witnessed multiple scabs of different degrees of severity. Also
fresh cuts that had not sufficient age to develope scabs.

I am trying to locate a prefab orthosis which would maintain the upper
extremities in a position which would not permit the hands to contact
the face. I would desire the elbows to be in extension and the wrists,
hands and fingers in neutral positions.

Normally I would take impressions but this child most certainly would
require sedation and in view of the overall clinical picture I would be
reluctant to approach his physician.

Again I am looking for a prefab EWHO, including the fingers, to prevent
the hands from contacting the face.

Thanking you in advance for your suggestions,

Gordon Bass CPO
