Medicare DOES pay for out-of-state services. With Medicaid, it's probably a
matter of state law - check with your local Medicaid office or the office in
the state that may be paying for the service. It is not necessary to have
multiple offices in order to have Medicare cover out-of-state services.
Again, Medicaid may be different - check with the responsible state.
HMO's will usually pay for out-of-state services, but will probably pay at
the lower out-of-network rate, unless you are a contracted provider with the
HMO. You need to check with the HMO and review your contract if you are
in-network/a contracted provider. You usually don't need multiple offices
to be paid as an out-of-network or out-of-state provider.
Can't answer as to early intervention.
Most problems arise not necessarily from services provided out-of-state or
out-of region but rather shoddy documentation. HOWEVER, Medicare and
Medicaid may flag providers with what they think is excessive
out-of-state provision of services and engage in heightened review or audit
activities.

Dear list
I have a few questions:
Does Medicaid/medicare pay for out of state services(same Region)or do they
frown upon this?
How about HMO's?(contracts obtained and out of network)
and of course early intervention (E.I.)?
Is it absolutely neccessary to have Multiple offices?
What are the problems that usually arise when this is done?
thanks
