Is it possible for someone to stand up and explain in a dispassionate way
exactly what happened when AOPA met with APTA and AOTA to hammer out the
language of the Consolidated Sell-Out bill of 2000? I have heard all the
spin about compromise, lack of funding to match up with the big guys',
NOMA(should Oliver Stone know about this?), and other revisionist
rationalization.
Does the AAOP still consider formal O&P education to be the foundations of
today's professional clinician? Or will 2-4 hours of an orthotic/prosthetic
overview qualify a candidate to sit for ABC boards. Where does the O&P
educational sector weigh in on this? Is a BS-level program wasted time and
money?
Our national organizations (AOPA, AAOP, ABC) have seriously compromised the
validity of the certification pathway they so ferverently espouse. Their
only retort has been that any O&P professional who feels aggrieved by their
actions join the Policy Forum and travel to Washington, D.C. and essentially
do their( that is, AOPA, AAOP, ABC)job.
Every one who has labored for countless hours and at great personal expense
in the quest for their respective state licensure has contributed far more
to the advancement of the O&P professional than our national associations
have and in most cases have done so with little or no assistance from those
organizations. The people in Washington, D.C. are PAID to represent the best
interests of the O&P professional. Do your job.
