I am looking for a quality plastic welder. The one I am
most familiar with is manufactured by Leister, but I am unable to find a
supplier.
Are there better ones out there?

The best catalog I have seen for plastic finishing tools is called

for thermoplastics.

LEISTER heat guns or hot air welding tools are well known in the
roofing industry.
I purchased mine from HEELY BROWN COMPANY, headquartered in Atlanta,
GA, phone # 1-800-241-4628, check for pricing, different branches have
different offers.
Boston Brace sells a good one about $600. You can probably speak
with Jeff or Rusty Miller about them. We just bought one that works very
well...
We use a Kam-weld which is portable. They make a permanent one as
well. I think you can get it from Boston Brace.
We have used the Leister Triac over the last 20 years in many
workshops and frequently enough to wear out the carbon brushes in most
cases. (Leister is to be found on the Internet and has a US distributor)
We have tried Steinel (Swiss), Metabo(Ger), Bosch(Ger), Sure(Jap),
Falcon(Taiw) and found out that for 1/3 of the price of a Leister we were
welding with equal success.
But the machines are not lasting as long.
If you do not use it to often, the above are alright. Be sure to
take the electronic ones, the other burn out instantly with a nozzle
attached. If you get a six month warrantee and it can be repaired nearby,
you cannot go wrong.
Thanks to all who replied,
