Help!! I have a ten year old male patient who's multiple diagnosis
include mental retardation, idiopathic scoliosis and claustrophobia. Six
months ago he was fit with a low profile Boston TLSO to control his 38
degree T9 curve. The child did not tolerate the TLSO due to the multiple
pressures inherent with this treatment and the child's claustrophobia.

During the past 6 months he has had 2 surgeries to repair his tethered
spine. Also during this period his COBB measurement has increased to 50
degrees.

Doctor states that surgery at this time is not an option. He requested
an orthosis to HOLD the child and hopefully prevent exacerbation of
the deformity for 2 years.

I have investigated the SpineCor System but due to the location of their
centers it is not practical for this child to travel hundreds of miles.

I suggested a Flex Foam TLSO from Spinal Technology or similar
orthosis but mother was doubtful of acceptance of her involved son.

I have considered a CBB but due to the coverage area I believe the
child's claustrophobia will come into play.

This sounds like an impossible task to fulfill but would appreciate any
help from anyone in the know' or has had this similar situation.
