Dear people of this list.
Please, let me introduce myself.
My name is Marianne Timmer and I live in Holland, near Amsterdam/Haarlem.
Five years ago I underwent an above knee amputation. Because I had a long,
not so very funny history with problems with my leg when it was still there,
I was very glad that I got rid of it and I was happy with my above knee
prosthesis. I could do nearly everything with it. But, in August 1999 I got
serious problems with my stump. Doctors discovered a sarcoma in it. So I got
another amputation, a hemipelvectomy this time. Because there was less
information in Holland about hemipelvectomy, I made a website about this
subject. On that website you can get a lot of information about
hemipelvectomy, also for nurses, doctors and so one, but also a lot of
useful information for other amputees. There is also a supportgroup for
Dutch people and I will start a supportgroup for German people. Also you can
read my personal history on that site.
One thing I am proud of and which is maybe interesting for you is that I
managed to ride a normal two-wheel bike with my hemipelvectomy-prosthesis.
You also can view a clip on my site (chapter The Prostesis, alinea Bicycle
press the word 'here'.
Why do not you check it out for yourself, the address is:
<URL Redacted> note the e instead the y in the end, that's
Dutch.
Regards, Marianne Timmer
