I would like to make a special request to the members of the list.
As you may know, the Georgia Institute of Technology is developing a Master
of Science degree program in Prosthetics and Orthotics. Like a certificate
program, the MS program will prepare students for residency and
certification in prosthetics and orthotics. Students will enter the
program starting Fall, 2001 with a Bachelor's degree. The program will
last 2 years, with the first year spent in classes and laboratories at
Georgia Tech and the second in clinical training around the Atlanta area
and at the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation. Highlights
of the curriculum include special electives in management and students'
ability to choose specialization electives in areas like materials science,
CAD/CAM, design, and orthopaedics.
As we finalize our program proposal to officially establish the program
with the Georgia University System, I need some help. The proposal must
establish that the program is unique in the State system (that's easy), and
that there is both a need for such a program in the industry and a market
for the students upon graduation. That's where you letters will help. If
you are a practitioner in the field who would like to see the establishment
of a new Master's Program in P&O, please drop me a quick note to say so and
cite a few reasons why this would be a good thing. If you are a student or
technician who might potentially be interested in enrolling, your letter
would also help us identify the need for the program.
Letters can be sent to me via email ( <Email Address Redacted> ), fax
(404-894-7593), or postal mail (Dr. Mark Geil, Department of Health and
Performance Sciences, Georgia Tech, Atlanta, GA 30332-0110).
Thanks very much for your help,
Mark Geil
