Here's a fun one!

Had this gentleman come into my office looking to replace the LS support
that he bought at Sears twenty years ago. He wants one just like it.

This decrepit device is canvas and leather, with a posterior pad and laces
on the anterior. The kicker is that it is only about eight inches (20cm) wide.

I've looked thru a lot of catalogs without seeing anything remotely this
narrow with a posterior pad or panel. Does anyone know of something that
fits this description?

Hi Ted,
Have you tried TruForm for this corset? I know they use
to make one like this.

Hey Ted,
I, to, was unsuccessful finding what you described. However, years ago,
those Sears products were made for them by Bell-Horn. Bell-Horn all but
died, but has been brought back by Circle City Medical out of
Indianapolis. Slim chance, but try 800-226-4799, ask for Todd
Katz. You'll probably end up making this from scratch. Too bad all you
CPO's are really prosthetists. Maybe a good CO can help on this one ! !

Sears? He got it at Sears!? If they can't replace it, have the gentleman
send it back to the Sears repair center.
Seriously though, I don't have a clue on replacing such an item. I
occasionally look in the C.D. Denison or Florida Brace catalogs for what I
consider the 'old fashioned' Orthotic designs. Good luck,

Ted, this sound like an orthosis for the Sacral Illiac joint fx. Have not
seen one
with leather on it though. Terry

Yeah Ted, it sounds like a sacro-illiac belt with a pad. Basically the pad
used to called a shingle. You can find a few types in the truform cataloge.
The laces used to go in the back to tighten the pad. I don't know if a laced
front is available, I have just seen straps.

Ted, I can duplicate it for you. It would be best it he could part with it,
if not we could go off of a detailed tracing.

Sounds like an old Sacro-iliac belt, with removable posterior pad

Hi Ted,

May I suggest tracing this ancient device and marking it well as to types of
materials used, colors, etc, and sending it to Tribar for a custom job?
Charge for custom & the price should be satisfactory as compared to the
Mcare allowable (or whatever insurance) unless you are one of those ------'s
that accept 40% below. OK, I won't go there........

We use Tribar for all our custom corsets. Ask for Barbara. She is very
knowledgeable and they do nice work. If you don't have their #, contact me
at work tomorrow at 540-722-9025. They are a small operation.

Good luck,
Joan Cestaro, C.P.

To me it sounds like a Sacro-illiac support. Check the Freeman catalog.

Ted,

Tri-Bar does a very good job of duplicating and manufacturing an
LSO to your specifications. They can use one of their standard
models as a base, and modify it to meet your front/back panel
size. The cost is very reasonable. Contact Barb Fletcher or
Therese at 800.332.2844.

The end result? The client isn't willing to pay what it would cost to
duplicate the device. He went to Lowes and bought a back belt that isn't
as good but is acceptable in price.

Anybody surprised?
