To all Orthotists & Prosthetists in Southeastern Virginia;

I am a degreed mechanical engineer that is changing careers to prosthetics. I have been a successful BK amputee for over 20 years and am currently seeking an internship/technician position with a local orthotics or prosthetic fabrication facility. I have the ability to volunteer approximately 30 hours per week to this effort since I am a part time student taking anatomy and physiology at TCC. I am applying to Northwestern's O&P certification program for the fall of 2001 but I need field experience now. I would appreciate the opportunity to learn from a local orthotics and/or prosthetics practitioner in the interim.

I'm 49 years old with a family to support, so I don't have the luxury of a lengthy education and training period. I am eager to accumulate as much knowledge and technical experience in as short a time period as possible so I can make the most of the working years ahead.

I have been involved in prosthetic R&D and field testing for 9 different BK PTB type prostheses having spent nearly 50 thousand dollars for the privilege. My combination of art, Electro/Mechanical design & troubleshooting, computer, and engineering experience may be a little unusual but I believe my experience is ideal for the O&P field. I have considerable hands-on experience forming polyester/epoxy/glass laminations, plastics, wood, metals, adhesives, and foams and I know tooling.

I would very much appreciate meeting with you to discuss ways in which I could benefit your O&P fabrication team. E-mail me for my resume or call me at (757) 420-0527 if you are interested . Thanks for your consideration.

Respectfully;

Stan LaCount
