Stance flexion

Stance flexion

Text:

Colleagues,

There are several knees now with stance flexion features. Some of them are
merely bumpers and others incorporate a shift in the geometry such as the
Otto Bock 3R60 and the Century 22 Total knee.

I am wondering if you are seeing this stance flexion in your patients gait
i.e., are they able to load the knee properly to get the benefit of the
stance flexion feature.

While stance flexion is a part of normal gait, I wonder if it is being
achieved with stance flexion knees or shock absorbing pylons. Does it smooth
out the gait and is the pt aware of it.

I would like to hear what your experiences are. I use mostly knees with
stance flexion and when I soften the bumper to see the flexion, I think it
may be getting in the way of forward progression. I am still experimenting
and observing

Anyone seeing the smoother gait pattern with stance flexion and/or shock
absorption? Are amputees appreciating the difference in your practice?

Any AK Amputee prosthetists able to testify to its benefits from their own
experience?

Sincerely,
Mark Benveniste CP
