Hello,
I have been referred a patient that has had a ruptured Achilles tendon. She
is now ready for a Controlled Ankle Motion (CAM) Walker type boot. She will
need free plantar flexion and a stop at 90 degrees. Currently the patients
calf circumference is 21 inches, and weight is 400 pounds. There is also a
necrotic ulcer on the posterior of the Achilles that will weep as the foot
is dorsiflexed. I fear that the weight of the patient may put the majority
of the boots available at risk of failure with up to 6 weeks of use. I am
leaning toward a metal AFO.
I seek your help in finding a suitable substitute.
Kindest regards,
Gary A. Lamb C.O.
