Burn Victim Amputee

Description

Title:

Burn Victim Amputee

Text:

Dear List:

I am handling a patient/client that has been a below knee amputee for about
three years. Her residuum is of normal dimension for someone of her size (100
Lbs), but is complicated due to the fact that she was amputated following
infection due to burns of over 50% of her body.

complications:

1- topical existing residuum is 100% scar tissue
2- scar/skin is adhered to bony prominence (fib head and hamstrings in
particular)
3- there are no possibilities of surgical improvement, there are no donor
sites left for grafting and the surgical team does not want to reawaken the
infection.
4- there is virtually no soft muscle tissue under the scar/skin surface
5- The scar/skin tissue extends over the entire posterior of the body (result
of a propane explosion behind this woman) this makes a femoral component to
the prosthesis less of an option.

I am looking for input from anyone who has had to deal with a similar
situation and will post these replies (anonymously) to the list.

Thanks in advance
