Tony,
I like the way you re-worded my post. But I don't like my assesment that they will destroy our profession. They will probably make the profession stronger. They will destroy competition and fair bidding by the independents by setting up a pricing structure where as they will be the only company that can afford to provide.

Bob,Thanks for the clarification but the way I read your statement I see nothing wrong in what they are doing..In fact believe it makes our profession stronger as an endorsement.Having known you to be around a while I was surprised to conclude this as only as an endorsement.
The problem here is not Hanger's business strategy but their failure as the industry's leader, in terms of number of practitioners and facilities, not to advocate minimum educational requirements for all O&P providers.
Perhaps you can forward the below statement to the O&P listserve?Tame it down of course if you would like!
Thank you,Tony

Tony,
As a former employee /practitioner with Hanger, and later as a sales rep for several of their products, I believe Hanger and Ivan Sabel has all but destroyed our profession. Your message was well taken.Perhaps Hanger should lead advocatcy for strict qualifications for all medicare O&P providers as a requirement to bid on lucrative Medicare contracts?

Enjoyed reading Tony Barr's comments about Hanger. Does this mean Hanger's activities may not be in the best interests of our profession after all ?? As a former employeee-practitioner with Hanger, and later as a sales rep for several of their products,I see nothing wrong with what they are doing. In fact, I believe it makes our profession stronger. Just my opinion.
