AK total suction socket with pin

AK total suction socket with pin

Text:

Colleagues,

Just wanted to share a technique that I have been using lately that some of
you may already know about in principle or in practice, but others may not.

Using a Coyote designs shuttle lock or an Alpha shuttle lock (air tight), you
can get a pin suspension as well as a total suction socket until the
inevitable volume reduction.
At this time you may compensate with socks but then lose the suction external
to the liner. I have been putting a circumferential piece of vinyl covered
PeLite (distributed by Fillauer) around the proximal border to provide an o
ring type seal (just distal to the medial edge of the socket). I have also
used this with regular suction sockets with success. Of course you can still
use socks below the vinyl/PeLite seal

I am also trying Hypobaric socks to try and maintain total suction external
to liner along the same principles, but they are more expensive.

While some may think this is suspenders and belt, others may see the
advantages of this for some of your patients.

I would also like to see an effective lanyard and a lanyard/pin system that
can also provide an air seal at the bottom.
