My issue with this bill is that I started the process to become a CPO in
1985 as a tech. My dream cost a substantial amount of money, a marriage,
and about ten years of my life. In order to become certified by ABC
(American Board for Certification most have to first posses a Bachelors
degree (4 yrs min) then the fastest route of specialized training is 4
months per discipline (O &P) I estimate about $25K conservatively (unless
anyone has more accurate figures) Then an additional 1900hrs (1yr) of
residency in each discipline. That entitles you to sit for THE TESTS!!!!.

The tests, when I took them, consisted of a 150 question multiple chose, A
written sim which probable is the equivalent of a 300 question multiple
choose that takes you through about 5 to 6 actual case scenarios, well
equipped with all the pitfalls including the response that you killed your
patient. Then the grand finally of the practical were for three days you
had to not only fit Pts but also had to provide prescription criteria and
fabrication.

So what this means is that it would take 7yrs, to the best of my knowledge,
to become eligible to test to become a CPO, All the monetary, emotional as
well as physical (Who out there has fallen fast asleep to Clinical
Kinesiology) strains and This bill, In about 5 sentences would make my
knowledge secondary to a Physical Therapist.

Now I have no doubt that there are knowledgeable PT's out there. But I have
also Give PT's as well as OT's there intensive 2-3 hrs of training in O & P.

Right or wrong does this make them qualified to deserve the right to call
themselves Orthotist Prosthetists?
