I received many responses that indicated that this was a post that was
of great concern to all. I did some more investigating and those
results and the three responses I received I have concluded the
following:
Fume extraction with a boom arm attachment so that the vent is placed
directly over the cup or toxin in question is the best. Not that the
larger systems are not useful - this boom or adjustable vent method
allows for fume extraction at the source (great for smaller work areas.
One key note - the filters for such fume extractors are supplied based
on the MSDA (sp??) sheets provided with the chemicals we use. If you
want more info take a look at the scavenger series at
www.airfiltronix.com
As for dust collectors, manufacturer and contractors are trying to sell
be a $ 10,000 system for two trautmans and a drum sander. I have talked
to many people and it seems that the dust collectors used in wood shops
are the best for my lab. A wealth of info on this subject can be found
with a general internet search on the subject. I found that (www
pennstateind.com) is a good site for info on the subject.
Thank you for your help.
