Hi list members,
I have a patient who is a 45 year old man, whose job is a restaurant
floor manager. He has now suffered a right brachial plexus injury,
which means his job of handling his geusts is in danger. The injury
is 40 days old. He presents with shoulder subluxation, free passive
moblility of shoulder and elbow. Wrist in flexion and slight ulnar
deviation. I saw him today and immediately put him on a single strap
shoulder sling. For his wrist and hand positioning I did a volar
cock up splint and wanted to review him after 3 weeks of physio and
to see if he can get some recovery. He has both motor and sensory
loss on his right arm and hand.
Can you suggest a good plan of treatment and rehab so that he can go
back to his job. Any attempt to change profession will be a harsh
suggestion for him. I am seriously exploring ways to help this poor
floor manager.
Your suggestions are highly valued.
Sincerely,
Srivatsa.
